Lowest team totals (TT move): JAX 13.75 (-2), ATL 15.5 (-0.75), CAR 16.25 (-0), NE 16.25 (-3.50), NYG 16.25 (-0.75)
Bankroll allocation: We’ll have three main slates this week (Thursday, Friday, Saturday). For Thursday, use 6-8% of your bankroll with 50-75% of that allocation in low-risk contests (H2Hs, 50/50s, Double Ups). If you’re a low-risk player, that allocation should be close to 75%. Admittedly, we do like the high-risk options a bit more on Thursday, setting up for a good slate to play a handful of cheap, high-risk lineups.
Low-risk lineup strategy: Three RBs. Always three RBs in NFL Preseason DFS. Even in high-risk.
Joe Webb is our top QB play as he’s expected to play most of the game, he has experience, and he offers upside with his legs. We certainly understand if you want to use Tyler Bray instead, as Chicago has a higher team total. Baltimore is the safest DST option, as the opposing Jaguars have the lowest team total on the slate (and it’s already dropped 2 points since lines opened). As the case for all lineups, don’t forget to use the FLEX spot for players who play in the latest game in your lineup!
High-risk lineup strategy: Still stick with 3 RBs. Because of playing time expectations and low game totals, there is no need to triple stack (3 players from one team) or game stack (multiple players from the same game) -- just stack a QB with one of his pass-catchers. The best positions to differentiate here are WR and TE, so use the high-risk plays at those positions (unless you’re stacking one of our low-risk plays with his QB). Note: if you’re playing in satellites/leagues where there isn’t a huge field (think less than 150 entrants), go with a “Cash+” lineup -- keep your core 4-5 low-risk players, then swap out the others for high-risk options.
High-risk contest selection: The more high-risk allocation you have, the more lineups you should be making. Fortunately in preseason DFS, there is no salary cap, so it’s super easy to make multiple lineups. Primarily play 100-player leagues on FanDuel. For GPPs, still be sure that you’re max-entering whichever contests you enter (e.g. if it’s a 3-Max GPP, enter 3 lineups). P.S. There’s a freeroll on DraftKings. Do it. It’s free.
Satellite targets:
FanDuel: There are a ton of satellites available for both the Sunday Million (Week 1 main slate) and Thursday Million (Week 1 Thursday night single game), both of which have $1 million top prizes. There are a few satellites that award 100 tickets -- target those specifically. Have a small bankroll? They even have 5c and 10c satellites.
DraftKings: Four tournaments to targets via satellites: Sunday Millionaire, Thursday Millionaire, Play Action ($3 entry, $200K to 1st, great for ALL bankroll sizes), and the Week 3 Preseason Dress Rehearsal GPP ($15 entry fee).
LAC/ARI Showdown recommendations: There are expected to be 7 QBs playing in this game, plus multiple RBs from each side. We love a high-risk approach here using any of the ARI/LAC WRs listed above (Byrd, Johnson, Scott, Davis, or other guys we highlight in the team notes below). In a game where no high-floor plays standout, both DSTs are priority options. The Chargers have two kickers on the roster, so rostering either is a low-floor/low-ceiling proposition. Zane Gonzalez, though, is the sole kicker for Arizona, making him a potential play. Note that Arizona currently has the highest implied team total of the evening (19.75).
